Although studies of bacterial and parasitic infections demonstrate that the presence of gal3 affects neutrophil infiltration, we observed in this study that while the expression of neutrophil-attracting chemokines and renal neutrophil infiltration are comparable in gal3+/+ and gal3−/− mice after systemic Candida infection, gal3−/− mice have less renal pathology and better survival than gal3+/+ mice. Here, LGALS3 is linked to candidiasis.
