CD4 and infection: Interestingly, in the two groups (only the most common genotype of 3 and 7 were compared and genotype 2 and 4 were not included for lacking enough number of individuals), HPgV-1 infection with genotype 7 was significantly associated with lower HIV-1 viral load (Group 1: log = 3.85 ± 0.49 vs. 4.02 ± 0.61, p = 0.042 ; Group 2: 3.83 ± 0.64 vs. 4.04 ± 0.69, p = 0.038, respectively) and higher CD4+ cell counts (Group 1: cells/μL = 332 ± 204 vs. 280 ± 148, p = 0.037; Group 2: 341 ± 164 vs. 288 ± 154, p = 0.015, respectively) compared with the HPgV-1 negative group (p < 0.05) (Table 2).
