Besides analyzing the influence of intranasal oxytocin on PTSD symptoms, we put particular emphasis on evaluating its effects on cardiac control, because, apart from oxytocin’s undisputed role in cardiovascular regulation [24], its effects on HR remain unclear: on the one hand, oxytocin has been reported to reduce HR [24]; on the other hand, there are numerous publications reporting that oxytocin treatment, especially oxytocin bolus application, can lead to tachycardia [25, 26].
