Interestingly, the T2D rats treated with EAF have significantly reduced TC and LDL contents and bring it to significantly lower level than that of NDC suggesting that α-glucosidase and GP-α inhibitors, mainly due to the presence of luteolin in EAF, may inhibit protein synthesis causing a decrease in the synthesis of the LDL protein and prevent cholesterol accumulation in T2D rats. The gene discussed is GYPA; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
