While the del variant has been associated with decreased MDM2 expression [12], results so far have linked the del1518 del allele to an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, colon cancer and uterine leiomyoma [25–27] but with no associations to epithelial ovarian cancer, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, breast, lung or prostate cancer risk [24, 25, 28–30]. Here, MDM2 is linked to ovarian carcinoma.
