GLT-1 ameliorates motor disorders induced by glutamate excitotoxicity, and blockade of GLT-1 in the central amygdala is associated with symptoms of depression and anxiety.20, 21 Previously we showed that ceftriaxone can improve MPP+-induced abnormal distribution of GLT-1 in astrocytes.22 In addition, ceftriaxone promotes the membrane expression of GLT-1 in MPP+-treated astrocytes and attenuates the apoptosis of astrocytes via suppression of the NF-κB/JNK/c-Jun signal pathway.22 These results suggest that glutamate transporters could provide a target in treating PD. Here, SLC1A2 is linked to depressive disorder.
