Furthermore, we showed that the resolution of liver fibrosis is associated with increased expression of matrix metalloproteases (MMP)-2 and -14 as well as decreased expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteases (TIMP)-1 and 2 confined to sinusoidal endothelium, thereby unmasking an unanticipated link between angiogenesis and resolution of fibrosis [9].
