To elucidate the mechanism underneath the glioma-mediated immunosuppression, it has been reported that GBM cells directly secrete multiple immunosuppressive factors such as transforming growth factor-β2 (TGF-β2) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), that suppress lymphocytes proliferation, and IL-6, that shift adaptive immunity to a humoral T helper 2 (Th2) type of response (reviewed in [7,8]). The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
