Further, the qPCR analysis of genes involved in hepatic lipogenesis (FAS, ACC1 & 2, HMGCR, SREBP-1C and SREBP-2) and metabolism (PPAR-α, γ, LXR-α, β, LPL, ApoE, LDLR, ABCG5 and ABCG8) indicated 2–4 fold augmentation in the expression of genes coding for triglyceride (FAS, ACC1 & 2, SREBP-1C), total cholesterol (HMGCR & SREBP-2) synthesis and β-oxidation (PPAR-α, γ, LXR-α, β) suggesting that iNOS KO mice are prone to hepatic steatosis (Fig. 7a,b).
