CRP and myocardial infarction: The results of our study suggest that the presence of VO in MI patients is associated with elevated levels of pro-inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12, CRP), which are mainly produced by macrophages, localized around hypertrophied adipocytes, accumulating in both the subcutaneous and visceral expanding fat depots, even though macrophage infiltration appears to be more prominent in the latter [9].
