However, it is still unknown whether ACE2 plays a role in this liver disorder or whether ACE2 deletion interferes with regulation of key factors of lipid metabolism, such as fatty acid translocase, also called cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ), adipocyte protein 2 (aP2), fatty acid synthase (FAS), and sirtuin 1, as well as of key moderators of ROS production in hepatic metabolism, such as uncoupling protein type 2 (UCP2).
