Phosphatidylglycerol is produced exclusively in the mitochondria and is the precursor for cardiolipin (Morita and Terada, 2015). Interestingly, CGI-58 knockdown, which causes hepatic steatosis but prevents obesity and glucose intolerance, profoundly increases hepatic phosphatidylglycerol concentrations (Brown et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene ABHD5 and obesity disorder.
