LCN2 and acute kidney injury: As promising early biomarkers of acute kidney injury, urinary (already validatedas an early predictor of acute kidney injury) and serum (still considerednonspecific in this prediction) NGAL could, in clinical practice, determine theearlier introduction of renal protective measures, including the replacement ofnephrotoxic antibiotics, initiation of water restriction, and even theinitiation of hemodialysis or hemofiltration, thereby contributing to improvedprognosis in critically ill patients with sepsis and renal dysfunction.
