Wang et al. generated ILK gene-transduced EPCs from subjects with preeclampsia and studied the possible effects of the modified EPCs against CVDs. ILK-overexpressing EPCs showed enhanced bioactivities including cell proliferation, migration, and in vivo EPC-mediated neovascularization, revealing a good potential for an EPC-based gene therapy in patients with preeclampsia [163]. The gene discussed is ILK; the disease is preeclampsia.
