Mice with pneumococcal meningitis showed increased levels of MASP-2 in brain at 6 (median 2.76 μg/mg tissue, P = 0.008) and 24 (median 3.01 μg/mg tissue, P = 0.008) h after infection compared to saline-inoculated mice at 24 h after inoculation (median 1.43 μg/mg tissue), but no difference was observed after 48 h (median 1.31 μg/mg tissue). Here, MASP2 is linked to infection.
