ABCG2 and hyperuricemia: Genetically, decreased ABCG2 function is one of the major risk factors of hyperuricemia (Matsuo et al., 2009), since ABCG2 contributes to both intestinal and urinary excretion of urate from the human body into the feces and urine, respectively (Ichida et al., 2012; Matsuo et al., 2014).
