As demonstrated in an in vitro model of breast cancer, fibulin-3 overexpression limits TGF-β-induced EMT, cell migration, invasion and endothelial cells permeability [146].In addition, aberrant promoter methylation and the resultant loss of fibulin-3 gene expression, is associated with a higher risk of metastasis and tumor progression in breast cancer [146], CRC [147], lung cancer [148] and hepatocellular carcinoma [149]. The gene discussed is EFEMP1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
