BAX and Alzheimer disease: Indeed, CypD has been identified, at least in AD, as a main contributor of neuronal damage through the induction of the mPTP [77,80], however many other proteins have been implicated in the formation of the pore, some of them dependent on CypD, as Bcl-2 [70], and others that are able to form the pore regardless of CypD, such as Bax [12] and ATP synthase [10,81].
