As one prominent exemplar of its pathophysiological linkage, CaV1.3 expressed in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) neurons tightly controls the autonomous subthreshold Ca2+ oscillations which have been considered to underlie the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease (PD) (Chan et al., 2007; Guzman et al., 2009, 2010). Here, CACNA1D is linked to Parkinson disease.
