Interestingly, CD133 expression only confers prognostic value in patients expressing a low level of HOX genes, while expression of HOX genes confers prognostic value in patients expressing a low level of CD133, suggesting that the overexpression of either CD133 or HOX genes may be sufficient to drive glioma progression, while overexpression of both of CD133 and HOX genes may only slightly further enhance progression potential. Here, PROM1 is linked to glioma.
