The ATX promoter hypomethylation correlated negatively with the severity of clinical parameters and hepatic fibrosis (TB, AST, ALP, and liver stiffness) but positively with hepatic protein synthesis (albumin), suggesting that epigenetic mechanisms could play a possible role in the regulation of ATX expression regarding hepatic dysfunction and/or hepatic fibrosis. This evidence concerns the gene ALB and Hepatic fibrosis.
