This study differed from the others on different points: First, it was the largest study included into our meta-analysis; second, only 62.3% of the patients included were in septic shock with the lowest probability of death at admission (27.3%); third, the hemoglobin before transfusion was one of the lowest ever reported in the literature (Hb = 7.7 g/dL). The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is septic shock.
