Our observations suggest that because FR-Sema3C inhibits the activities of VEGF-C [30], PDGF and bFGF in addition to VEGF, it may possibly benefit this large group of AMD patients who do not respond well to the currently used VEGF binding drugs such as bevacizumab (AvastinTM), aflibercept (EyleaTM) and ranibizumab (LucentisTM) which sequestrate and trap VEGF. The gene discussed is FGF2; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
