Considering that an ALDH2 polymorphism is an independent risk factor for gastric cancer in East Asians, with a pooled OR of 1.18 [23] and a minor allele frequency (MAF) ranging from 0.13 for the Vietnamese to 0.24 for the Japanese [39], we projected a simple estimation of the gastric cancer incidence based on the ALDH2 genotype and H. pylori infection status, using the lowest gastric cancer incidence rate among Asians of 2.8 for Indonesians as a baseline [40]. This evidence concerns the gene ALDH2 and gastric cancer.
