The inherited rs738409 C→G polymorphism which encodes for the isoleucine-to-methionine substitution at residue 148 (I148M) of PNPLA3, is known to be associated with increased liver fat content and the development of NAFLD (see also Section 3.2 above) [119]. Here, PNPLA3 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
