We recently found that Otub1, an ovarian tumor (OTU) family member Dub, can stabilize and activate p53 [39]; yet it does so via a non-canonical suppression of the MDM2 cognate ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (E2), UbcH5, leading to the inhibition of MDM2-mediated p53 ubiquitination [39, 40].
