The proinflammatory chemokine interleukin 8 (IL‐8), which is involved in the chemoattraction and activation of neutrophils during the immune response and also has growth angiogenic and mitogenic effects in a variety of cancers, including prostate, ovarian, melanoma and carcinoma 31, 32, 33, 34, was induced more than sixfold by 4PBA, but less than twofold by NaBu (Fig. S1 and S2). The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is cancer.
