ST6GAL1 and breast carcinoma: Malignant transformations are often associated with a deregulation of glycosylation processes, and in particular that of terminal sialylation in breast cancer.2 Lin et al.3 showed that the cell surface α2, 6-sialylation contributed to cell–cell and cell–extracellular matrix adhesion of mammary carcinoma cells, and inhibition of sialytransferase ST6Gal-I level reduced the metastatic capacity of mammary carcinoma cells.
