RPH3AL and schizophrenia: Of note, a DMR spanning four probes within the RPH3AL gene on chromosome 17, which encodes a protein that plays a direct regulatory role in calcium-ion-dependent exocytosis, is consistently hypomethylated in schizophrenia patients across all four brain regions (PFC: median DNA methylation difference = −8.03%, median P = 8.27E-04; STR: median DNA methylation difference = −5.32%, median P = 7.14E-03; HC: median DNA methylation difference = −7.84%, median P = 1.78E-02; CER: median DNA methylation difference = −10.24, median P = 3.86E-03) (Fig. 2 and Supplementary Materials, Figs S15 and S16).
