In murine model of chronic myeloid leukemia induced by BCR-ABL, either transcriptional or chemical inhibition of arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase (Alox5) impairs the survival and asymmetric cell division capacity of leukemia stem cells by downregulation of β-catenin in Wnt signaling, inhibiting leukemia initiation, while the loss of Alox5 exhibits no effect on normal hematopoietic stem cells [30, 31]. This evidence concerns the gene ABL1 and leukemia.
