Using the paired cell lines ARCaPE and ARCaPM, which differ in their metastatic ability, we demonstrated a significant increase in ALPL expression and alkaline phosphatase enzymatic activity in metastatic ARCaPM cells as compared with non-metastatic ARCaPE cells, with prostate cancer cells demonstrating increased alkaline phosphatase activity per mg protein as compared with 2T3 preosteoblasts (Figure 1B–D, Supplementary Data Figure S1).
