It has been demonstrated that serotonergic, glutamatergic and GABAergic system of different brain areas such as hippocampus and/or amygdala have a role in the regulation of anxiety: 5-HT transporters, 5-HT receptors (e.g., 5-HT1A), N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors and GABA receptors (e.g., GABAA receptors) are potential targets in the treatment of anxiety disorders (Nagy et al., 1979; Kakui et al., 2009; Li, 2012; Sankar, 2012; Dias et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene HTR1A and anxiety disorder.
