NKX2-5 and preeclampsia: Whereas the majority of research on Nkx2‐5 is focused on its role in heart formation, recent studies have provided new insight into certain relevance of Nkx2‐5 to many other pathophysiological conditions, such as early‐onset and severe preeclampsia, thyroid dysgenesis, keratinocyte differentiation, and acute T‐lymphoblastic leukemia.15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 These studies, although limited, unveiled a novel role of Nkx2‐5 as a broad‐acting regulatory component beyond cardiogenesis.
