The adenomatous polyposis coli gene, which functions as an antagonist of the Wnt signaling pathway, has been shown to be hypermethylated in the t(4;14) subset of myeloma cells.38 As Wnt pathway is known to be activated in both normal and cancer stem cell,40 it would be interesting to explore whether an activated Wnt pathway imparts stemness and self-renewal capacity in CPCs. This evidence concerns the gene APC and cancer.
