Several pro-survival and anti-apoptotic signals in AML cells are activated by the stroma [37], including the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) [38, 39] pathway (PI3K/AKT/mTOR), which weaken the response of leukemic cells to conventional chemotherapy. Here, MTOR is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
