Due to the methodological constraints of performing functional assays, measurement of DBPII binding inhibitory antibodies (BIAbs) was performed on a representative subset of the study population comprising 164 individuals, matched for age, sex, malaria exposure and DARC alleles; 58 (35.4%) of these individuals showed BIAbs response against a predominant DBPII variant circulating in the study area (Table 1).
