As judged by flow cytometry (Supplementary Figure 8), BS patients as a whole had a higher absolute number (medians: 3.60 × 104/ml versus 2.00/ml; p < 0.0001; not shown) and percentage (medians: 5.17% versus 0.91%; p < 0.0001; Fig. 7A) of TFPI+ MPs, indicating that an increase in TFPI+ MPs in the disease environment may be a protective response.
