Since human bronchial epithelial cells treated with IL-17A and IL-17F show increased secretion of IL-8 via the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways, IL-17A and IL-17F are likely involved in pro-inflammatory gene expression and the pro-inflammatory cytokine network involved with CF pathogenesis. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and cystic fibrosis.
