CD8A and neoplasm: Among lymphocyte subsets, the density of CD4+ cells was not significantly prognostic in TNBC (Fig. 2), while CD8+ lymphocytes were consistently associated with prolonged RFS and OS in both univariate (HR = 0.54; 95% CI, 0.33 to 0.91; P = 2.05E-02 for RFS; HR = 0.54; 95% CI, 0.32 to 0.91; P = 2.07E-02 for OS) and multivariate analysis (HR = 0.58; 95% CI, 0.34 to 0.97; P = 3.72E-02 for RFS; HR = 0.58; 95%CI, 0.34 to 0.97; P = 3.88E-02 for OS), indicating that cytotoxic CD8+ T lymphocytes are the main effectors of anti-tumor immune responses (Fig. 2, Fig. 3c, and Table 1).
