Kindlin-2 was suggested to play a role in the development of cardiac syncytium [58] and this was confirmed in Drosophila. There are two orthologues of vertebrate kindlin-2 in Drosophila, Fermitin1 and Fermitin2, and silencing both them can cause heart failure due to the inability of cardiomyocytes to form a functional syncytium [59]. The gene discussed is FERMT2; the disease is heart failure.
