Noticeably, in the list of parasite proteins (Dataset S3), there were several which are exposed by the parasite and, thus, could have antigenic properties, such as rhoptry proteins, serine repeat antigens (SERA), fam-a proteins, YIR proteins, exported proteins of unknown function and the merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1), which is a “classical” malaria vaccine candidate (Figure 4D). The gene discussed is ATAD1; the disease is malaria.
