In primary RCC-Caki-2 cells, silencing of the DCLK1 gene using DCLK1 siRNA resulted not only in decreased expression of EMT transcription factors (SNAI1, SNAI2, TWIST1, ZEB1, and Vimentin), but also reduced expression of the pluripotency and stemness factors MYC, Nanog, Oct-4, Sox-2, and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) 1A1 (Weygant et al., 2015). The gene discussed is DCLK1; the disease is renal cell carcinoma.
