Leukemias were characterized by high blast counts of mean 68.5% in the bone marrow (range 38 - 100%) (Supplementary Table S4, Figure 5A) and expression of progenitor cell and myeloid markers: Sca-1 (median 20.5%, range 11.8-32.4%) and c-kit (median 8.5%, range 2.9 – 78.5%), Gr-1 (median 34.7%, range 3.0 – 52.3%) and Mac-1 (median 33.2%, range 0-67.1%) (Figure 5B, Supplementary Table S5).
