Based on these abnormalities, diagnostic tests were developed for urothelial and colorectal cancers, which screen respectively for the expression of the Bradeion isoform of SEPT4 in the urine and the methylation of the SEPT9 gene in the blood (Tanaka et al., 2001, 2003; Grutzmann et al., 2008; Warren et al., 2011; Bongiovanni et al., 2012). Here, SEPTIN9 is linked to colorectal cancer.
