Some studies have shown that angiogenesis related genes and growth factors, such as EphB4, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), anti-von-Willebrand factor (vWF), and Nestin, are highly expressed in pterygium and reveal the vascular content ratio as a main determining factor of the destiny of pterygium [24–26]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is pterygium.
