Kao et al. reported bortezomib, a proteasome inhibitor, hindered the formation of autophagic flux by suppressing the activity of tissue lipase in lysosomes [19]; our preliminary studies found that proteasome inhibitors induced Beclin 1-independent autophagy in ovarian cancer cells and the later strengthened the toxic effects of the former on ovarian cancer cells in turn [24]. This evidence concerns the gene BECN1 and ovarian cancer.
