Aberrations in several cytoskeletal proteins, such as neurofilaments, spectrin, microtubules, and tau, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, including glaucoma (Braak et al., 1994; Schultz et al., 1997; Ahlijanian et al., 2000; Fischer et al., 2004; Tahzib et al., 2004; Cuchillo-Ibanez et al., 2008; Petzold et al., 2008; Chidlow et al., 2011; Haines et al., 2011; Ito et al., 2012; Yan and Jeromin, 2012).
