It has been reported that Drp1 is upregulated in human invasive breast carcinoma and metastases to lymph nodes, and silencing Drp1 or overexpression of Mfn1 inhibit lamellipodia formation, a key step for cancer metastasis, suggesting that mitochondrial dynamics regulates migration and invasion of breast cancer cells [25].
