Specifically, calcium supplementation i) decreased overall NAS (histological severity) and inflammation (Fig 1), ii) decreased liver fibrosis (Fig 2), iii) correlated with lower serum bilirubin and lower levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine MCP-1 (Tables 1 and 2) and iv) decreased the number and size of “end-stage” hepatic regenerative hyperplastic nodules (Fig 3).
