Recently, Choi et. al. described subsets of MIBCs that were transcriptionally reminiscent of breast cancers, including a luminal subtype characterized by a high frequency of activating FGFR3 mutations and a favorable outcome, and a basal subtype that exhibited a low frequency of FGFR3 mutations and was associated with a poor prognosis [14]. The gene discussed is FGFR3; the disease is breast carcinoma.
